"The best 'Concert in the Park' series in the world. No shit !!!"

Glenn S. 5/28/2009

While the above statement was once certainly true, Roseburg City officials no longer book top rated performers.

Now restricted with diminishing contributions/budget, this venue was once grand indeed.

Hope for a return to again experience some of the top music of our time in our home town.

In the meantime, experience or re-experience some of the great musical moments performed in a magical environment

MONOPHONICS LIVE AT ROSEBURGS NICHOL'S HALF SHELL JULY 7, 2012

A FREE COMMUNITY CONCERT in a great outdoor environment to an euthiastic & dancing gathering

Monophonics were formed in 2005; originally an instrumental ensemble, in the last 2 years they have come to find there own sound.

The foundation is the blistering funky drums of Austin Bohlman and soulful bass playing of Myles O’Mahony, fuzzy echo guitars by Ian McDonald, a powerhouse horn section made up of Ryan Scott & Alex Baky and the swirling organ & dynamic vocals of Kelly Finnigan.
The result is a psychedelic soul & heavy funk sound, which harks back to the styling of the late 60’s and early 70’s, all while keeping its feet planted in the present.
Recorded direct to 24bit flash deck using Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L headworn mic

Los Lobos is primarily a really GREAT DANCE BAND. NO problem with people wanting to dance nonstop while this band plays! For some reason, this audience was unusually reluctant. SO, to get the crowd on their feet and dancing (at end of set 2), Los Lobos band invited audience members to stage-dance with them.

Riders in the Sky is an American Western music and comedy group which began performing in 1977.[1] Their style also appeals to children, and they are sometimes considered a children's band. They have won two Grammy Awards and have written and performed music for major motion pictures, including "Woody's Roundup" from Toy Story 2 and Pixar's short film, For the Birds.

Riders Radio Theater is the Riders in the Sky's radio show. It originated in Nashville, with WPLN-FM as the presenting station, but later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and can now be heard on WMKV.

For much of their career, the group was a trio: lead singer/guitarist Ranger Doug (Douglas B. Green), singer/fiddler Woody Paul (Paul Chrisman), and singer/bassist Too Slim (Fred LaBour). In the 1990s, the group re-added Joey the Cowpolka King Joey Miskulin on accordion, who had been with the group for a brief period in the 1980s. They usually introduce themselves as "Ranger Doug, the Idol of American Youth", "Woody Paul, the King of the Cowboy Fiddlers", "Too Slim, the Man of a Thousand Hats" and "Joey, the Cowpolka King".In their first 30-plus years, Riders in the Sky have performed in over 6200 live performances, almost 300 national television appearances, over 200 public radio shows, 700 Grand Ole Opry appearances, three television series (including a 1991-92 CBS Saturday morning show), an appearance on an episode of "Duck Dodgers" on Cartoon Network and more than 30 albums. The group also wrote and appeared in numerous Christmas specials on TNN and CMT in the 1990s. They are based in Nashville, Tennessee.Riders in the Sky perform authentic renditions of old classic cowboy and Western songs, as well as original works and various comedic skits and songs. Their sketches often include allusions to something being done in a dishonest or lazy manner; with Ranger Doug typically responding to this observation by saying "You fellers know that that would be the easy way. But it wouldn't be the cowboy way!"

SPYRO GYRA LIVE 1998 ROSEBURG OREGON CONCERT
Band HistoryBand Bios >>As Spyro Gyra contemplates upcoming milestones to its storied career, it’s tempting to fall back on the Grateful Dead lyric, “What a long strange trip it’s been” to describe it. During that time, they have performed over five thousand shows, released twenty-nine albums (not counting “Best Of…” compilations) selling over ten million albums while also achieving one platinum and two gold albums. These upcoming milestones include 2012, which will be thirty-five years since their first album release and 2014 will be forty years as a band. They show little sign of wanting to slow down either, gaining Grammy® nominations for each of their last four albums.

Born in Brooklyn, bandleader Jay Beckenstein grew up listening to the music of Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gillespie, and started playing the saxophone at age seven. Beckenstein attended the University at Buffalo, starting out as a biology major before changing to music performance (read classical and avant garde). During summer breaks, he and an old high school friend, keyboardist Jeremy Wall, played gigs together back on Long Island. Wall attended college in California, and after both graduated, Beckenstein stayed in Buffalo’s thriving music scene, where Wall eventually joined him.

BRAVE COMBO (THE ALTERNATIVE) POLKA BAND DOES THE "HOKEY POKEY" AT ROSEBURG, OREGON FREE CONCERT

"Doing the Hokey Pokey" in Roseburg, Oregon USA at the Summer 2009 free concert in Stewart Park featuring the astonishing BRAVE COMBO band.

Video from inexpensive handheld Lumix DMC-FX12 camera. What makes this special is full fidelity audio was later added to the video recorded using moderate cost HRTF headworn Stereo-Surround microphones and a a shirt-pocket sized audio flash recorder no larger than the camera.

The high quality audio was added to the timeline in video post edit after splitting-off the low quality monophonic audio. Found it very easy inserting highest quality audio into the timeline.

The result is astonishing (like the band) and quite watchable I think mostly because of the surround quality audio and acceptable auto-stabilized video image from the ~$100 camera.

ACOUSTIC ALCHEMY 1998
Acoustic Alchemy is an English contemporary instrumental and smooth jazz[2] band formed in England in the early 1980s (c. 1981), originally fronted by acoustic guitarists Nick Webb and Simon James. The band is currently fronted by Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale.

During the late '80s and '90s, Nick Webb and Greg Carmichael produced a series of mellow albums classified as adult contemporary music, though the guitarists encompass the range of jazz and new age as well. Both grew up in England during the '60s listening to pop/rock, though Webb studied jazz guitar at Leeds College of Music while Carmichael focused on classical guitar at the London College of Music. Originally formed by Webb and Simon James, Acoustic Alchemy later became Webb and Carmichael; the duo initially worked for Virgin Airlines, providing in-flight music on trans-Atlantic trips. Signed to MCA in the mid-'80s, Acoustic Alchemy released its debut album, Red Dust & Spanish Lace, in 1987 After two subsequent releases, the duo signed with GRP in 1990. Their second GRP album, Reference Point, was nominated for a Grammy Award. Positive Thinking followed in 1998 in the wake of Webb's February 6 cancer-related death; their jazz content was quite small, but Acoustic Alchemy's albums consistently charted number one on the adult contemporary charts. By 2000, Carmichael unveiled a revamped Acoustic Alchemy that included longtime sidemen like bassist Frank Felix, guitarists John Parsons and Miles Gilderdale, and keyboardist Terry Disley, as well as new members such as keyboardist Tony White. That year's The Beautiful Game was the new lineup's first release. AArt followed in 2001 and proved to be the group's biggest splash, landing them another Grammy nomination that year.
